EDMTunes New Music Friday – Week 10

Listen to the most flavour-packed tracks we discovered this week.

Music makes the world go round. And in that regard, we’re constantly on the lookout for new, exciting tunes to share with our audience. We’ve found some that cause goosebumps, and make you open your eyes and get up from your chair to dance. So put on your best pair of headphones, or turn up your speakers, and enjoy this week’s New Music Friday.

Here are our top picks for the best music we came across this week, in no particular order.

Storyboard – Heavy Wrist Genre: Dubstep

Well on its way to becoming a leader in the Dubstep sound, Storyboard is a young producer ready to take on the world. Growing up with influences from Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, and Bring Me The Horizon, one day he decided he wanted to make his own music, blending the sounds he loved with the best of the underground Dubstep scene.

Out today, ‘Heavy Wrist‘ is Storyboard’s most recent proof that the only thing separating him from the leaders in the industry is a bit of time, and a turning point — which may have just come today. Powerful, beefy and, most importantly, headbanging-worthy, this work from him will surely draw a smile on your face, and may force you to get up from your chair too.

Richiesoul – Love Genre: Progressive House, Melodic Techno

Being a part of the Dance world for nearly 20 years, Richiesoul has stated time and time again just how forward-thinking he is. The promise to bring good music to the table is a staple of his, and his sound reflects that cutting-edge vision. Through the years, he’s fiddled with various styles of production, and today, he rocks the Progressive / Melodic Techno blend.

Love‘ is precisely that: a rocking, banging Progressive track, with subtle nods to Melodic Techno. The beat though, unlike the latter, comes filled with tasty hat rolls and various ear candy gifts that will keep you listening on repeat. Icing on the cake? The vocals, which, I may be wrong, seem to be Jodie Knight’s. And we here at EDMT love Jodie’s vocal lines (don’t we all?!).

Henry Fong & ANG feat. Kazhi – I’m A Freak Genre: C

This one’s quite special for me personally, because I’ve been following Henry Fong for ten whole years now, ever since his ‘Where We Belong’ remix dropped. He’s done it all, from Electro House to Big Room, and now atop the Bass House sound. And he carries on wearing the crown: enter a cheeky little single, ‘I’m A Freak‘. We don’t doubt it.

This time, he’s teamed up with duo ANG and vocalist Kazhi to provide quite the groovy belter. Enjoy the tension building up to a fake drop, and then just admire the filth of the bass layers coming together. We’ve had this one on repeat for a little while, and we “fear” you might too.

Divolly & Markward X DJ Shorty – Vazilando Genre: Tech House

Are you a fan of the colour orange? Because if this release doesn’t captivate you from its artwork, it for sure will from its sonic quality. Just in time for Miami Music Week, receive in your hands — and ears — the latest Tech House bomb, coming your way from the guys over at Divolly & Markward.

They’ve teamed up with DJ Shorty to rework his 2015 hit track, ‘Vazilando‘. Reimagining the House vibes from back then into a modern-day dark-yet-groovy beat, they’ve kept the Cuban spirit intact but have prepared this one to be quite the anthem, a long while after the original release. This one is good, with a thousand “o”s.

JOYFIRE – Life Genre: Big Room

JOYFIRE is one special guy. Paul Armento, the man behind the project, has extensive past involvement in music outside of Dance, including a background in Heavy Rock, musical theatre and classical piano. Knowledge which he uses to craft truly unique compositions that span quite beyond the major-minor-I-VI-IV-V sound we’ve been blasted on the radio for the past who-knows-how-many years.

Case in point is his latest release, ‘Life‘, a banging Big Room piece whose main melody can’t really be locked onto anything out of the blue. Armento explains ‘Life’ “was created using 12-tone classical principles, giving it an other-worldly chaotic feel, until the drop locks it down“. The title is a tribute to how from chaos emerged something as ordered and meaningful as life itself. We dig it, I must say.
