Man on Drugs Bites "Chunk" Out of Police Officer's Head at Florida EDM Festival: Report

A man high on drugs at Florida's Sol Fest attacked a police officer and "bit a chunk" out of his head, FOX 13 News reports.

The electronic dance music festival took place from Thursday, May 2nd to Sunday, May 5th at Vortex Spring, a venue in Ponce de Leon. Deputy Mark Harris of the Holmes County Sheriff's Office had been patrolling the grounds on the second night of Sol Fest when he says he was suddenly accosted by a festival attendee under the influence of drugs.

It was a mix of PCP, LSD, ketamine and mushrooms that reportedly sent James Michael Anderson, a Vortex Springs volunteer, into a violent frenzy during which he bit into the officer's head. Anderson also attempted to grab his weapon, Harris said.

During the scuffle, Harris managed to draw his taser, but even the electrical charge seemed to have little effect on the drug-fueled Anderson, who continued to struggle. Backup then arrived and several deputies converged on the scene, wrestling Anderson to the ground and restraining him.

Both Anderson and Harris were reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital. Harris, with a chunk of his head missing, was in shock but stable. Anderson, still combative, was sedated and placed under arrest.

As the news of the attack spread, the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office released a statement detailing the incident. Anderson was ultimately charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
