Study Shows Which EDM Artists Appear Most On Sex
Playlists
A new study shows which EDM artists appear the most on sex playlists.
The report, titled “Tuning Into Intimacy: What Music Do People Prefer During Sex?,” was conducted by a team of researchers at online pharmacy provider Zip Health, who surveyed over 1,000 people about the music they listen to, or don’t, during sex. They also analyzed over 11,000 songs across more than 140 Spotify playlists designated for getting it on.
Their research revealed that Hippie Sabotage, deadmau5 and FKA Twigs were the top three electronic artists found on sex playlists, though no EDM artists cracked the top 10 overall.
R&B, hip-hop and pop artists dominated the top artists list, with The Weeknd ranking No. 1 ahead of artists like Kanye West, Drake, Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar and more. Metal band Deftones ranked No. 3.
Overall, EDM was the No. 6 most popular music genre on sex playlists, behind pop, hip-hop, R&B, indie rock, and alternative. Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” is an overwhelming favorite in sex playlists, featuring most ahead of “The Hills,” “Often,” and “Call Out My Name,” by The Weeknd and “Closer” by Nine Inch Nails.
However, indie alternative artist Two Feet’s electronic heavy productions “Love Is a B***h” and “I Feel Like I’m Drowning” featured in the top 10, at No. 6 and No. 9 respectively.
When it came to average music characteristics, the songs on sex playlists had an average tempo of 122 BPM, an average energy level of 0.63 and an average duration of three minutes and 37 seconds in length.
The study also investigated the connection between music preferences and sexual behavior, finding that 81 percent of EDM listeners have had a “one-night stand”—the third highest percentage behind folk and heavy metal.
Over one in three people who listen to EDM have had sex in public, a total of 37 percent, according to the study, which also contends that EDM fans “last the shortest in bed,” taking the last genre ranking at an average of 27 minutes and 20 seconds.
Regardless of music taste, researchers found that listening to music during intercourse improved sexual satisfaction. Those who set the mood with music were 7 percent more likely to be satisfied with their sex life.
