Jeff Mills Sets Release Date For New Trauma-Themed Album, ‘The Eyewitness’

Jeff Mills has announced that his new album, The Eyewitness,’ will arrive on July 5, 2024, via his own Axis Records label.

The Detroit techno pioneer shared the news on Instagram yesterday, in addition to dropping off the project’s lead single, “Those Who Worked Against Us (Vendetta Mix).”

Described in a press release as “an album created to point to an antidote on how to protect our mental health condition,” The Eyewitness is said to address various themes of shock, trauma, and the human psyche across nine tracks.

“Trauma and the shock effect of it—the leftover residue of harsh reality so impactful that it shapes the way you imagine, envision and calculate your position in regard to everything and everyone around you,” Mills said of the project in a statement.

“A new type of psychological radius evolves,” he continued. “Boundaries are reinforced. Relationships are recessed. A damaged brief system float aimlessly. Vulnerable to and for anything reminiscent of a worthy cause. The truth about facts became satirical monologue, dead end expressions that have no critical arrangement. We all know someone that either has been or will be.”

The Eyewitness follows Mills’ THE TRIP – ENTER THE BLACK HOLE, which was released in March. The 12-track experimental album, described by Mills as a “cosmic opera,” was accompanied by a special run of live audiovisual shows in Tokyo, and grabbed additional headlines for its vinyl pressing being intentionally crafted to spin in reverse.
