Tame Impala Is Launching an Electronic Music Instrument Company

From the stage to the soldering iron, Kevin Parker, the architect of Tame Impala's lush soundscapes, has launched a company to produce electronic music instruments.

Fans visiting the band's Instagram account last week saw the addition of a new handle for Telepathic Instruments, which is described on its own page as "an electronic instruments company founded by Tame Impala and friends." A website was also created for the company, but it's quite cryptic.

The same goes for Telepathic's social media. At the time of this writing, the brand's Instagram page comprises two posts: one containing an image of its logo along with audio of a distorted, bitcrushed synth patch and a silent one with a pixelated image of someone resembling Parker. The latter comes with a caption reading, "What is bro trying to tell us..."

Speaking with Synth History last year, Parker discussed his favorite synthesizers, like the vintage Sequential Circuits Pro One, as well as his early audio tech inspirations.

"A little Casio keyboard that I basically inherited," he said. "My dad had this little Casio, which I’ve had forever. I mean, that’s technically a synth but it wasn’t like 'a synth.' Once I started playing the Pro One, I was obsessed. The first few things that I wrote on that ended up being songs on Lonerism. That album, my second album, was basically the sound of me discovering synths. I didn't go crazy, but all the synths kind of define the sound of whatever song they're on."

While the details are obscure at the moment, fans can register for updates on Telepathic Instruments via the company's website. Entering an email address triggers a message that reads: "We’ll be in touch soon. You’ll know it when you hear it."
