deadmau5 Mumbai Show Canceled Due To Prime Minister’s
Visit
Deadmau5’s upcoming headline performance in Mumbai, India has been canceled due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the city.
Originally announced in May and scheduled to take place on July 12, the show at NESCO’s Bombay Exhibition Center would have marked the Canadian DJ and producer’s first performance in India in over a decade, as part of Sunburn Festival’s Sunburn Arena event series.
“The Honorable Prime Minister of India is visiting the city around the scheduled event date, and therefore the planned venue is no longer available for use as per directives issued by the relevant authorities,” Sunburn shared in a social media statement on the cancelation.
Modi will host his own event at the NESCO Center on July 13 to inaugurate several civic infrastructure projects, according to the Times of India. All deadmau5 ticketholders will receive full refunds, according to Sunburn.
“We will work with the artist management to try and find a window to bring deadmau5 back to India soon,” the promoter added. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.” Read Sunburn’s full statement below.
Deadmau5’s last and only gigs in India came in March 2014 as part of a three-date Sunburn Arena tour held in Mumbai, Bangalore, and New Delhi.
Sunburn Arena will continue with two shows from minimal tech DJ Boris Brejcha this December 7-8. Cities and venues for both dates will be confirmed in the coming months. Pre-sale registration is now open here.
Throughout the rest of the summer, deadmau5 is slated to perform at festivals like Creamfields Shenzen, Calgary’s Chasing Summer, Tomorrowland, and HARD Summer, the latter two of which will be special REZZMAU5 gigs with Rezz.
Last week, deadmau5 shared his new progressive single, “Quezacotl,” via his own mau5trap imprint.
