Create Music Group Acquires deadmau5 and mau5trap Catalogues in $55 Million Deal

Create Music Group (CMG) has acquired the recording and publishing catalogues of deadmau5 and his label, mau5trap, in a deal worth over $55 million. The acquisition includes the rights to more than 4,000 songs and establishes a joint venture for future releases from deadmau5 and mau5trap artists.

Joel Zimmerman, better known as deadmau5, has been a key player in electronic music for over two decades. Since founding mau5trap in 2007, the label has launched the careers of artists such as Skrillex, REZZ, Noisia, Feed Me, and the late i_o.

Create Music Group co-founder and CEO Jonathan Strauss commented: “When deadmau5 put on that helmet, he didn’t just create a brand — he sparked a movement. His vision redefined electronic music, pushing boundaries and reshaping the industry. Now, as the stewards of deadmau5 and mau5trap’s catalogue, we inherit a legacy that changed music forever. This is more than an acquisition; it’s a responsibility.”

Zimmerman, who has worked with CMG for nearly two decades, stated: “We didn’t need to look far when considering a partner to take this to the next level. With Create, I feel the music is going to reach more people.”

Dean Wilson, deadmau5’s manager and business partner, added: “Over the last 20 years, we’ve built one of the strongest brand names in electronic music. Partnering with Create ensures the next two decades will be just as exciting for Joel and everyone at mau5trap.”

CMG will implement a multi-platform strategy, including remastering and re-releasing key tracks, launching exclusive content, and exploring brand partnerships. The company will also leverage gaming, virtual reality, and live streaming to engage new audiences and create additional revenue streams.
