CRSSD Festival 2025

We caught up with three artists at CRSSD Festival ’25 for some quick-fire chats between sets. It’s not easy grabbing time with DJs in the middle of a packed festival weekend – but we made it happen. Here’s what they had to say in a few fast, off-the-cuff moments.

Attack: How much do you adapt your set to the location or crowd? For example, at a festival like CRSSD, do you think about what that audience might want and tweak your track selection accordingly?

Will Clarke: For me the week before CRSSD is a mad rush in the studio trying to finish off new records, edits and always have to make a special intro for our fellow San Diego ravers. With regards to track selection, I don't have a set playlist, I will know the first record and then will just see where the set takes me!

How much do you adapt your set to the location or crowd?

We adapt our sets to an extent, but we always adapt on the day based on what we’re getting back from the crowd. Luckily, we make such a range of music, we are able to switch between vibes/genres pretty easily, without having to sacrifice playing too many of our own compositions in order to achieve it.

How often do you rely on tried-and-tested transition techniques for safety, versus experimenting with new and more innovative mixing styles?

We are always switching it up, never relying on any past experiences to shape what we decide to do in the moment. We’re a duo, but apart from our own tracks, we discover all the music we play separately and like to keep each other on our toes. That’s what keeps it exciting!

How much do you adapt your set to the location or crowd?

We know that CRSSD is one of the best-curated festivals in the United States, we know that people have great musical taste and will enjoy the music. For this type of show, we try to bring new versions of our songs to the dance floor, remixes, but above all, we try to keep the beat going, which is not very common in indie music. We have prepared a very special show with many studio grooves that we haven't released on music platforms. 

How often do you expertiment on stage?

We definitely love to modify the structure of our songs, trying to bring a unique energy to a live music setting. We make the synthesizers sound as raw and real as possible. Something we like to do is leave space for improvisation between songs. Interesting things happen, and it's very exciting to respond to the audience's energy.
