Spotify Hikes Prices for the Second Time This Year

If you’re an avid Spotify listener, you might have to shell out a bit more to keep those beats going. For the second time in a year, Spotify is raising the prices of its premium subscription plans in the United States.

Starting in July 2024, the price for Spotify’s Individual plan will increase from $10.99 to $11.99 per month, marking a $1 hike. This might seem like a small jump, but it’s part of a 20% increase since 2020. For those sharing an account, the Duo plan will see a $2 rise, going from $14.99 to $16.99 per month. Families that groove together will feel the biggest pinch, with the Family plan jumping from $16.99 to $19.99 per month—a $3 increase. Students, however, can breathe a sigh of relief. The Student plan remains unchanged at $5.99 per month.

Spotify has attributed these price increases to the need for continued investment and innovation in their product features. According to the company, these changes are essential to providing users with the best possible experience and staying competitive in an evolving market. This means more refined features, better algorithms for discovering new tracks, and possibly more exclusive content in the future.

Given the extensive library and curated playlists that Spotify offers, particularly for EDM enthusiasts, this increase could impact how you budget for your music subscription. Current subscribers won’t see the new rates until after a one-month grace period, during which Spotify will notify users of the upcoming changes. The price increase might be a slight deterrent, but the platform’s commitment to innovation could mean enhanced user experiences and more ways to enjoy your favorite genre.
